An $11 Kodak disposable panoramic camera indelibly altered the way Taos, New Mexico photographer Terry Thompson viewed the world. On a whim, he purchased the "fun little camera" for him and his wife to play with while on a vacation in Death Valley in 1990. An $11 Kodak disposable panoramic camera indelibly altered the way Taos, New Mexico photographer Terry Thompson viewed the world. On a whim, he purchased the "fun little camera" for him and his wife to play with while on a vacation in Death Valley in 1990. When he got the film developed he was instantly intrigued by the unusual, oblong prints and has passionately pursued panoramic photography ever since.

Terry's photography skills developed over the previous decade while working as the Production Manager-Producer for an underwater film company in Oakland, California headed by Al Giddings. During this time, his work expanded beyond managerial duties and he began shooting still photography on company projects, much of it underwater.

Although Terry shoots a fair amount of conventional 3:2 format photography these days, panoramic images remain the focus of his efforts. Whether created in a 617 medium format panoramic film camera or digitally stitched together from several frames of his Canon 5DMkII, the high resolution images yield large, high quality display prints that Terry sells through a network of art consultants as well as licenses as stock imagery.

A founding member/photographer of Picade, Terry contributes to the enterprise by assisting photographers joining the agency prepare their images so they will meet Picade's stringent file specifications and pass its quality control.

Most recently, Terry has dusted off his tennis racket and is trying to bring his game back to where he believes it was "way back" in college.
